Continuing Education Requirements CSI CE Courses and Seminars Penalties for non-completion
Continuing Education Requirements
To ensure a consistent approach to continuing education (CE) for industry professionals, FCSI CE requirements have been harmonized with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) CE requirements.
Each FCSI must earn 42 CE hours 30 hours of professional development (PD) and 12 hours of compliance education – during each three-year CE cycle. However, if an FCSI has satisfied his or her IIROC requirements, then they have automatically satisfied their FCSI requirements.
Compliance courses can be taken from CSI or in-house through a securities firm. PD courses can be taken from a variety of accredited sources including your firm, CSI, community colleges, universities and professional education providers.
All CSI course seminars qualify for FCSI CE credits. In order to determine whether a non-CSI course or seminar qualifies for FCSI CE credit, consult the IIROC’s course guidelines website.
If the non-CSI course meets the IIROC’s guidelines then the course can be used towards FCSI CE credit. It is up to the student or his/her firm to determine whether the non-CSI course meets the guidelines.
Credit Cycle The current CE cycle ends on December 31, 2005.
You must retain supporting documents to confirm your completion of
CE credits. Each cycle, a random number of
FSCIs will be asked to submit supporting documents
to verify credit hours that have been claimed.
